Community Health Awareness Program (CHAP)
The Community Health Awareness Program (CHAP) is a vital initiative aimed at fostering health consciousness and accessibility within communities, operating monthly at local mosques like The Islamic Foundation Mosque and The Mecca Center. This collaborative effort between dedicated volunteers and healthcare professionals strives to provide comprehensive health screenings and education on prevalent disease states.
CHAP's primary objectives include promoting health awareness, preventing diseases, reducing health disparities, and improving healthcare access for underserved populations.
At each CHAP, MePA members provide blood pressure, blood glucose, hemoglobin A1C, cholesterol screenings, and medication counseling under the supervision of licensed pharmacists. By offering these essential tests at no cost, CHAP ensures that financial barriers don't prevent individuals from accessing crucial healthcare services and education. MePA collaborates closely with a network of healthcare professionals including pulmonologists, optometrists, hematologists, and more. This interdisciplinary approach enables community members to address diverse health needs comprehensively. Moreover, CHAP extends beyond mere screening activities, incorporating educational components to empower community members with knowledge about disease prevention, management, and healthy lifestyle choices.
